COVID-19 Update

You may be wondering if we are still going.  The answer is, we don't yet know, so are still training and haven't cancelled anything yet.  We're watching the situation closely, and following the FCO and WHO updates.  If we were starting now, we couldn't do the first 17 days of the walk, as the northern region is in lockdown, and the FCO advising against all but essential travel.  This would invalidate any insurance, but also it would not be responsible to travel from place to place and risk spreading the virus further.  So, if the situation remains the same, we certainly won't be starting when and where we planned to.

We're hoping that the containment measures and the usual mutation of the virus will mean that in six weeks' time things will be much improved (it has taken about 6 weeks in China).  We'll be able to make a more informed assessment then, and may be able to do at least some of the walk, perhaps starting further south, and, if the north is in a better state by then, go back and do the first stages afterwards.

Currently, the official Site of the Via Francigena is saying not to go until at least 3 April.

It will happen, just maybe not this year.
