Then along a "Ru" or ancient irrigation channel, now renovated with modern concrete.
After this, St Oyen, where I met a strange rider
and a little alley where the smell of sweet fresh hay drew my eyes first up to a hay barn,
then down to the neat, freshly whitewashed cow sheds below.
And yes, there are cows, sheep and even donkeys.
Finally I reached Etroubles, crossed a pretty little wooden bridge
And walked up through woods
to reach Echevennoz five minutes before a late-running, nearly empty bus enfolded me in its air conditioned arms (32 degrees made today's 16km walk a test of my fitness) and snaked back to Aosta where a milkshake and several pints of water later, I'm beginning to perk up.
Love that little bridge!
